Though often treated as neutral, trust in counseling is shaped by history, power, and perception. Anti-Blackness can influence the formation and disruption of trust, in counseling relationships. This session introduces a BlackCrit-informed framework for understanding trust as a racialized process and equips counselors and supervisors with practical strategies to recognize and respond to mistrust in practice. Participants will leave with concrete tools to strengthen engagement, improve therapeutic alliance, and avoid pathologizing racialized mistrust as resistance or counselor incompetence.
