Dr. Christine Bhat has dedicated years of research to the increasing prevalence of school bullying through electronic means, including intimidation and harassment via cell phones, video, and internet-based social networking platforms and blogs. As an expert in cyberbullying prevention, Bhat provides training for school counselors and parents on strategies to address cyberbullying at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Her research examines the prevalence of cyberbullying both in the United States and internationally, as well as effective interventions that school personnel and parents can implement to prevent cyberbullying and support youth who are targets or bystanders.
Dr. Bhat has served on the faculty of Counselor Education since 2006, following her tenure at California State University, Long Beach. In addition to her academic background, Bhat possesses extensive international experience as an educator, counselor, and psychologist in Australia and India. She served as President of the American Counseling Association during 2025-2026. Her previous leadership positions include Treasurer of Chi Sigma Iota, Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society; President of the Association for Specialists in Group Work; and President of the Ohio Counseling Association. Bhat is a licensed professional counselor and school counselor in Ohio. She has contributed expert commentary to the media on topics such as cyberbullying and suicide prevention.
