Valerie Ashby serves as Lead DBT Therapist and Senior Outpatient Therapist at The Emily Program in Beachwood, Ohio. She is also an Adjunct Professor in John Carroll University’s Counseling Department and is recognized for her engaging presentations to providers. Valerie is a licensed professional clinical counselor with supervisor designation, offering group and individual therapy for adolescents and adults with eating disorders. She specializes in Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for adolescents, as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) for individuals with eating and mood disorders. With ten years at The Emily Program, she collaborates closely with psychiatrists, dietitians, and medical providers. Valerie has completed intensive training in FBT, DBT, CBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She recently presented on technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV) at a John Carroll University conference and on the links between intimate partner violence, disordered eating, and NSSI. Valerie is committed to evidence-based care and mentors interns, trainees, and early-career clinicians. She frequently lectures and speaks publicly on eating disorders, body image, trauma, and mental health at local high schools and colleges. Valerie is a dedicated advocate for marginalized populations, especially LGBTQIA+ youth.
