I2 – From Simulation to Connection: An RCT-Informed Critique of AI in Mental Health
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into mental health care, questions emerge about the nature of connection in counseling spaces. Relational Cultural Theory (RCT) offers a lens for examining how AI-mediated interactions may simulate, but not fully replicate, the mutuality, authenticity, and cultural responsiveness central to growth-fostering relationships. This session explores the tension between simulated and human connection and offers practical, relationally grounded guidance for ethical AI integration in counseling practice.
