J5 – A Qualitative Study on the Role of Expressive Writing in Mitigating Loneliness in College Students

While counseling helps with loneliness and other struggles college students face, therapist supply often fails to meet client demand. Consequently, more research is needed to expand the tools available for addressing loneliness. Expressive writing shows promise as a strategy for addressing mental health challenges generally; our intent was to examine whether it is effective in mitigating loneliness specifically. Hence, we designed and implemented a study where college students wrote about their experiences of loneliness over a four-week period.
