Slavery in the United States operated as both an economic system and a gendered trauma regime with lasting intergenerational effects. This presentation integrates research on racial trauma, stress transmission, and neurobiology to examine how historical violence and systemic marginalization shape clinical presentations among Black women. Pathologized behaviors are reframed as adaptive responses. Using trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches, the session highlights assessment and intervention strategies grounded in historical and structural context.
