Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools
Dr. Derek Varansky is the 13th Superintendent of the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District, where he has spent the past seventeen years in education, serving as a teacher, dean, director of curriculum and instruction, and, since 2022, as superintendent. During his tenure at TV Schools, he has helped lead the district academically to be one of the highest-achieving districts in the tri-county area and in the top 20% of schools in the state, opened a brand new middle-high school serving students in grades 7-12 and a new PK-6 elementary school to place all students on one campus, all without increasing district residents' taxes and maintaining fiscal responsibility, and converted the district's original high school into a thriving community center featuring a school-based health center, satellite senior center, and nonprofits to serve the district's students and residents. Dr. Varansky was recognized in 2020 as an East Ohio Region Award Recipient for his contributions to education and is the 2025 Ohio Middle Level Association's Educator of the Year, the most distinguished honor the Ohio Middle Level Association can bestow upon an individual to recognize his or her contributions to education.
