Dr. Derek Varansky is the 13th Superintendent of the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District, bringing seventeen years of experience in education as a teacher, dean, director of curriculum and instruction, and superintendent since 2022. Under his leadership, the district is recognized as one of the highest-performing in the tri-county area and ranks in the top 20% statewide. He led the opening of new middle-high and PK-6 elementary schools, consolidating all students on one campus while maintaining fiscal responsibility and avoiding tax increases. He also oversaw the conversion of the original high school into a community center that now houses a school-based health center, a satellite senior center, and nonprofit organizations. Dr. Varansky received the East Ohio Region Award in 2020 and was named the 2025 Ohio Middle Level Association's Educator of the Year, the Association's highest honor.
