Alan Smith, Code Enforcement Bureau Chief for the State Fire Marshal, Ohio Department of Commerce, has over 37 years of experience in the fire service. He served as Fire Marshal for WSU for 17.5 years and has worked at the State Fire Marshal's office since 2011.

In September 2017, Alan Smith was appointed Chief of the Code Enforcement Bureau. Previously, he served as Assistant Chief for five years and as Interim Chief for 11 months. With more than 37 years of experience in fire safety and code compliance, Alan brings proven expertise and leadership to the bureau.
