Join Jim and Carolyn as they challenge you to examine your “Why”. They believe that if you know your “Why”, the “How” will happen. In today’s society, school counselors are challenged to fulfill logistical duties while also attending to their students' social and emotional needs. This session will guide you through a proven system for doing both. Activities include: 1) Character Education is not on the plate; it is the plate, 2) The key to student success is a good attitude (What are your ten keys to students having a good attitude?), 3) What are your ten reasons a student would want you to be their counselor?, 4) What made your best and worst years as a counselor?, 5) What are you already doing as a Character Educator?

NOTE:  Attendees of this 6-hour session will have the special opportunity to earn up to 3 college credits for this workshop at an OSCC reduced rate of $120 per credit, offered through the presenters (please note that this graduate credit is separate from the opportunity provided by Lindenwood University). The class is rolling, which means you can receive your grade as soon as you complete your assignments. You do not have to wait until the end of a semester. You can earn 1, 2, or 3 credits. For one credit, a worksheet listing reflection questions will accompany the presentations and group discussions. Complete this worksheet during class as directed. For two credits, you will complete the above requirements and read three suggested articles on character education and write a 100-word response to each article. For three credit hours, you will complete all the above requirements and write a 6-page reflection paper based on a suggested outline.
