It is always tricky for a new student arriving at a new school; however, the stakes increase when the student is from a different country. Our school had to pivot to help these student refugees with the acculturation process and help the American students accept them despite their cultural differences. 1040 Unity is an afterschool club that supports the student refugees in having a sense of community with themselves and American students. This presentation will discuss how the club came to be, how we managed the club, and the outcomes.
