E9 – A Unique Position: Prescribed Roles Versus Reality of Practice for Urban School Counselors
This session will investigate current issues in urban school counseling. We will discuss the disconnect between theoretical models and the actual daily work of urban school counselors, along with their perceptions of the ASCA National Model. Key themes—including "The Missing School Secretary," "The Inverted Pyramid," and "ASCA Burnout"—will be examined in detail. Additionally, we will explore potential shifts in practice and strategies for monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of these changes. Participants will gain insights into improving urban school counseling practices.
