The use of therapy dogs in counseling has grown significantly and many desire to incorporate a dog, but do now know how to begin. This session will share the presenter’s 29 years of experience with therapy dogs to cover “all the bases”. This session will detail suggestions for setting up the approval, preparing your pet dog for this role, where to access resources to get a dog, liability/allergy concerns and benefits. It will cover types of service dogs, ideas if you currently have a dog and include live demonstrations of skills with a therapy dog working in a school counseling setting.
