Agent Trey Edwards has spent his entire 25-year law enforcement career working on pharmaceutical investigations. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University and completing the Cleveland Heights Police Academy, he began his career in 2000 as a Pharmaceutical Diversion Investigator with the Lake County Narcotics Agency (LCNA). Agent Edwards spent 8 years at LCNA before being hired as an Agent for the Ohio Board of Pharmacy in 2008. He worked as an Agent in the state's Northeast region for 10 years, conducting criminal and administrative investigations and inspections. In 2018, he began working in his current role with the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) Early Intervention (EI) Unit. The unit focuses on reducing prescription drug misuse across Ohio through educational initiatives, deflection programming, and investigations and referrals of violations of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) and the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) related to pharmacy and medical practices. He is also an active participant in county fatality review committees throughout Ohio, helping to identify system gaps, analyze trends, and develop prevention strategies to improve community safety and reduce future incidents. Agent Edwards is currently the President of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI). He was honored to be awarded the Ohio Board of Pharmacy Investigator of the Year in 2013 and the Ohio Investigator’s Association Investigator of the Year in 2021.
