Dr. Randy Moate is an associate professor of counseling at Baldwin Wallace University. Previously, he was an assistant professor and then an associate professor at the University of Texas at Tyler, where he coordinated the clinical mental health counseling program for three years. He earned his Ph.D. in counseling and human development services from Kent State University in 2014. Moate is dedicated to his roles as a teacher, practicing counselor, and scholar.

Moate pursued a Ph.D. to help students become effective professional counselors. He believes students learn best when they see the practical relevance of coursework to their future careers. His teaching focuses on experiential activities that promote concept application, skill development, and reflective, critical thinking.

Moate is a licensed professional counselor with experience in private practice, college counseling, and non-profit agencies. He specializes in existential, person-centered, and mindfulness-based approaches for adolescents and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, performance enhancement, and identity-related concerns.
