J4 – The Forgotten Child: Recognizing Trauma in Siblings of Children with Disruptive Behavior
Speaking clearly on behalf of those we serve requires seeing all of them. When a child presents with chronic disruptive behavior, attention often centers there, overlooking siblings living alongside it. Research shows these siblings may experience unrecognized posttraumatic stress symptoms. This session presents original thesis research on caregiver-reported PTSD symptoms, then moves to clinical application—helping practitioners identify and support these siblings through trauma-informed, attachment-focused approaches, including Theraplay.
