The practice of student affairs (SA) is one of CACREP’s specialized areas of counseling preparation. Because SA professionals are often the first contact for college students facing mental health issues, it’s imperative they are equipped to respond effectively. However, despite evidence aligning counseling training with SA practice, minimal support exists within our profession for SA professionals. Instead, they rely on non-counseling bodies for guidance. In this presentation, we discuss the importance of counseling training for SA professionals and how counselors can amplify their work.
