I7 – Masking at Work: The Hidden Cost of Being a Neurodivergent Counselor in Neurotypical Spaces
Neurodivergent clinicians often navigate workplaces and training environments built for neurotypical professionals, frequently masking their traits to survive gatekeeping, supervision, and professional evaluation. This session examines the psychological and professional costs of masking for neurodivergent counselors, supervisees, and educators. Attendees will explore how neurotypical norms are embedded in professional spaces and leave with tools for personal reflection, advocacy, and creating more inclusive clinical environments.
