I2 – Childbirth Medical Trauma: Evidenced-Based, Compassionate Treatment for Birthing Persons

This presentation prepares mental health counselors to use evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches with birthing persons experiencing childbirth-related medical trauma. In the U.S., maternal mortality exceeds 30 per 100,000 births, with severe complications like postpartum hemorrhage, emergency C-section, and pulmonary embolism contributing to risk. These events can lead to PTSD, anxiety, and disrupted bonding. Counselors will learn to assess medical trauma and apply trauma-informed interventions within the perinatal context to support healing and recovery.
