J5 – Liberating Wellness: Embodied and Expressive Pathways to Decolonized Practice

Wellness practices have been influenced by colonial frameworks, further marginalizing and excluding minoritized populations, including (but not limited to): BIPOC populations, disabled individuals, older adults, and individuals with larger bodies (Banerjee et al., 2021; Gamby et al., 2021; Gordon, 2023; Kinsey, 2022). There is a need to reimagine wellness, centering the voices and needs of these communities. To address this, this session will introduce a decolonized framework for equitable and culturally affirming wellness practices, providing specific creative and embodied techniques.
