G1 – Being With, Not Running From: Using Immediacy to Disrupt Experiential Avoidance in Session

Clients often use coping mechanisms such as intellectualization to run from emotions in a psychotherapy session. This may become a pattern that promotes feelings of shame and guilt surrounding the expression of feelings in real-time. This session will explore the clinical significance of emotions and their functional role in client behavior. Participants will increase their knowledge of emotions, including how emotions motivate us, teach us what's important, and help us communicate with others.
