E7 – Tales from the Trails: Hiking, Ecotherapy and Existential Wisdom in Mental Health Practice
This presentation explores ecotherapy, existentialism, & hiking for promoting psychological well-being. Based on hikes in the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains and supported by clinical practice, the session illuminates how nature evokes existential questions i.e. purpose, freedom, isolation, and mortality and how this offers space for healing. Counselors learn to integrate nature-based practices and existential frameworks with clients. Through storytelling, reflection, and applied theory, participants will come away with fresh perspectives and practical strategies rooted in nature and meaning.
