C2 – Exploring the Positive Humanities’ Role in Human Thriving
The humanities play an undertheorized role in mental health. The Positive Humanities is an emerging interdisciplinary field that “can be defined as the branch of learning concerned with culture in its relation to human flourishing” (Pawelski, 2022, p. 206). In this session, we review the literature on the role the humanities play in wellness, identify capacities the humanities help people develop, and discuss ways to incorporate the humanities in the helping professions. Pawelski, J. O. (2022). The positive humanities: A focus on human flourishing. Daedalus, 151(3), 206-221.
