A7 – Supporting International Students with Adverse Childhood Experiences: Clinical Considerations

When receiving counseling services, International College Students (ICSs) may disclose Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in their home countries, requiring college counselors to stay culturally humble when supporting their wellness (Mesidor & Sly, 2016). This session will share pilot findings from an original empirical study on ACEs among ICSs, explain the profile and consequences of ACEs in cross-cultural adjustment, discuss culturally informed and attachment-based clinical skills, and explore ethical considerations such as handling mandated reports with ICSs through a case study.
