This presentation will begin by reviewing the literature on the prevalence of mental health diagnoses and the risk of suicide in older adults. Presenters will discuss gaps in counselor education that risk further marginalizing and inadequate treatment of older adult populations. The presentation will suggest approaches to integrating geriatric topics into counselor education to better prepare counselor trainees.
