Name
C52 — Broaching Race, Ethnicity and Culture in Suicide Assessments
Date & Time
Wednesday, October 18, 2023, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Description

Counselors may miss crucial details in clients' lives during risk assessments when neglecting multiculturalism. Broaching (Day-Vines et al., 2007; Day-Vines et al., 2019) is a humanistic skill and a counselor’s ongoing commitment to inviting clients to examine their experiences in context of racial, ethnic, and cultural factors. Broaching can improve suicide assessments through strengthening the therapeutic alliance, helping clients open up, and capturing a fuller picture of the client’s experience. Participants will explore an interactive case study and watch a demo of broaching in suicide.
