There is an urgent need for the implementation of effective strategies to prevent the initiation and misuse of substances among youth. School counselors are well positioned to develop, implement, or support substance use prevention programming that fits within their comprehensive school counseling program and MTSS framework. This session will provide an overview of the basics of substance use prevention, practical strategies for implementing evidence-based prevention across tiers, and various resources, tips, and frameworks for building and adapting programs that include youth’s voice.
