With the passing of House Bill 123, the Safety & Violence Education Students Act, school districts serving students grades 6-12 have new requirements to include in their health education for the 2023-2024 school year. Under health curriculum, in every grade level from grades 6-12 and continuing each year, school districts must include at least one hour per school year of evidence-based instruction in each of the following topics: suicide awareness & prevention, safety training & violence prevention, and social inclusion.
