This presentation explores one approach to conceptualizing the mental health challenges of second-generation immigrants utilizing Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, a form of parts work. The concepts of IFS will be applied to a case example exploring the experience of a young adult with a diverse gender identity and parents who immigrated to the United States from South Asia. We will present the client's mental health issues and explain each in terms of the IFS model and how clinicians using the IFS model might approach the client's treatment.
