This presentation will address ethical and culturally competent counseling interventions regarding coping mechanisms used by diverse ethnic groups that are less acculturated and assimilated. Based on multicultural counseling and hope theories, we will examine the importance of linking natural support systems with more formal ones concerning help, help-seeking behaviors, and help provision. This intervention will serve as a means of cultural preservation while minimizing stigma and maximizing diversity counseling process. Lastly, we will highlight the role of a culturally competent counselor.
