Name
C26 — Techniques for Addressing Stigmas and Resistance Amongst Minorities in Behavioral Health Settings
Date & Time
Tuesday, October 17, 2023, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Description

Many Black/African American (BAA) clients experience difficulties in the behavioral health care setting with accessing culturally appropriate services. Specifically, many BAA clients will be either misdiagnosed or undiagnosed due to cultural factors that are misunderstood by the counselor assessing the client’s needs (Jones et al., 2018). This lack of culturally competent care leads BAA clients to not engage in treatment at the same rate as their Caucasian counterparts (Hahm et al., 2015).
