Name
C22 — Using Relational Therapy to En-Courage Cultural Consciousness in Counseling
Date & Time
Tuesday, October 17, 2023, 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM
Description

Relational-cultural therapy (RCT) is an approach uniquely suited to "bridge cultural divides" in counseling. Societal power dynamics concerning dominant and non-dominant identities and related oppressive forces (e.g., ableism, cisgenderism, colonialism, heterosexism, racism, etc.) are not conducive to hierarchy-attenuated relationships and foster disconnection. This presentation will serve as an introduction to RCT as well as a demonstration of how this theoretical orientation can be used to en-courage (Jordan, 1990) movement toward connection among culturally different counselors and clients.
