Name
C19 — Ethically Treating Clients who Experience Chronic Suicidality as a Symptom of Severe PTSD
Date & Time
Tuesday, October 17, 2023, 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM
Description

Counselors are taught how to remain ethical when working with clients who experience temporary suicidality but often become uncomfortable when working with clients who experience chronic suicidality. Counselors want to eliminate suicide as a symptom but for those clients who have experienced many traumas over the course of their life, chronic suicidality is a life-ling symptom that needs to be managed using evidenced based practices that decrease negative emotions, such as shame. First we need to begin to understand why chronic suicidality happens in order to treat it.
