This pre-conference workshop will consist of a presentation, engagement and experiential activities. The workshop will seek to balance understanding and application for beginners learning the area of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). In addition, the workshop will provide advanced tools for those with experience addressing DEI topics. An exploration of ethical principles guiding DEI and social justice work will be provided. The workshop will provide strategies and discuss ways to broach multicultural and DEI topics to help enhance cross-cultural communication. The workshop will challenge attendees to be aware of their worldviews, biases, stereotypes, prejudices, and behaviors that might hinger effective cross-cultural communication. Strategies to address DEI on an individual level (micro), group level (mezzo), and a community/governmental level (macro) will be explored. The overall goal is to enhance the learning of the attendees while engaging in a thought-provoking discussion about social justice and DEI issues. Case studies, vingettes, and media methods will be utilized to highlight concepts and enhance applicability.
